It has been a very busy first term and I’m sure that you will agree that the school holidays are very much needed by your little people. I hope that you are able to have some time off from your work to spend with the family.

Over the holiday period, it would be great if you could continue to spend some time each day on your sight word and sound book routine with your child. We have now learnt all of the single letter sounds and after the holidays will be looking at digraphs (more information about this next term).

The children have had a great term of learning and developing an understanding of our routines. There will be very few changes if any to our timetable next term with a few additions, more information to follow next term.Your child’s show and tell day will remain the same for the coming term. Our topic for week one next term will be holiday news. Mrs Sloan, our student teacher will join us every day for the first five weeks of the term as part of her teaching practicum. We will be going swimming later in the term. It looks like we have another busy term ahead of us folks.

Thanks everyone for your support this term, I’m looking forward to doing it all again next term. Here are a few highlights of your child’s first term in 02.

School resumes on Monday, 30th April.

What a great start to the year we have had so far. Unfortunately, we have already had some illness in our room. If your child is away from school for any reason, please ring the office or email me directly on the day. Alternatively, you can send a note when your child returns to school in his/her Communication Book with an explanation for the absence for my records as this is a DECD requirement.

Children have all settled really well into our routines and are getting very good at remembering their morning jobs. At last it looks like we are in for a cooler week so this might help children with their stamina during the day and with getting a good night sleep.

As it is week three we will be cranking up our work load in the classroom. Thank you to everyone who attended the Acquaintance Night, it was lovely to chat to you. I do hope that you were impressed with your child’s ability to show you around their school, introduce their teachers  and explain their learning so far to you.

I look forward to sharing our learning with you throughout the year…..Watch this space.

Welcome to 2018.

Parents of children who were in Room 02 in 2017 can unsubscribe from these posts by following the link at the end of this email. Thank you and good luck to all of my beautiful Reception children who are going into year one on Monday. I hope you are excited and that you love it. Don’t forget to say hello if you see me in the yard.

Week 4 news..

This week as always has been busy in 02.

Your child may’ve come home talking about our end of year concert. I will let you know important information  for our class as it gets closer.  The concert will be in the evening on December  Thursday  7th, week eight.  Please keep the date free!

😊 This week we have continued to learn about  birds eye view maps.

😊 On Monday, Simone took us over the red lines. We each had a map, a clipboard and a texta on as we went for a walk around the block and marked our journey on a map. This was very tricky but lots of fun.

😊 We spent time looking at maps of the world as well globes and looking for similarities and differences.

😊 We had fun in Art, Music and Japanese with our fabulous specialist teachers.

😊 On Friday, the Reception teachers hosted the 2018 reception children on their very first orientation visit. The Kindy children will visit again in weeks six and eight.

😊 I will no longer be collecting the red sound books, please use them to revise reading and writing sounds at home.  Any sounds your child needs to learn or revise will now come home in the blue sight word books or Communication Books.

Week 4 info

We’ve had another great week in 02.

Thank you so much for the effort that everyone put into our sharing topic last week. We had a lot of variety, seeds, flowers, and vegetables. We are in the process of monitoring the growth and changes that happen to our plants.
The Book fair viewing was very exciting, there are lots of great books available at reasonable prices. You can purchase items before and after school on MONDAY from 8.00am to 6.00pm and on TUESDAY from 8.00am to 6.00pm.

If you would like to purchase a book but are not able to visit the Library to do so, purchases can be made online. Simply visit the Scholastic website, make your payment and send the receipt number with your child (on the back of the Book Wish). If the book is in stock it will be sent home. Books that are not in stock, will be ordered and will be available within 7-10 working days.

We had fun visiting the hall for the National Simultaneous Story time that took place in schools all over Australia on Wednesday morning. It was such a cute story of how the cow tried many, many, many times to get over the moon.

Don’t we look cute in our masks?
Did you know that we have begun Dance lessons with a year one class? Stay tuned for more news about this.

Here is a sneak peek at our moves.

What a busy week!

What a wonderful week of nature play we have had. It was great to see everyone get themselves organised quickly in their boots and jackets.
We enjoyed listening to nature, spotting bugs, galahs, white cockatoos and rainbow lorikeets up in the trees. Children also collected items from the ground to examine later in the classroom.
As part of our discussions, we talked about how to care for nature, that we eat some nature and looked at how animals use nature to conceal themselves and learnt about camouflage. We tried to find animals that were camouflaged in a series of photographs. This was lots of fun. We were also very fortunate to have a variety of herbs donated for the children to touch and smell. As other classes would like to enjoy the garden, our next visit will be in week six. Don’t worry, I’ll send you a reminder!

During the coming week our morning routine will return to normal. If you are free to list children read, we’d love to have you.
On Friday Entertainment books were sent home with each child. If you do not wish to purchase the copy sent home, please return it to the classroom in the envelope provided so that I can mark you off my list as having returned your copy. If you wish to purchase your book, payment can be made in class or at the office. If you do not return your copy you will be invoiced.

Hope All the mums have a wonderful day on Sunday.

Reading news.

Our Daily Reading programme is well and truly up and running in our classroom. I hope that you are able to find 15 minutes every day to complete the set tasks that your child brings home.

  • Sight words
  • Sounds
  • Reader
  • Don’t forget to sign the Communication Book each time your child reads his/her book.

When reading please encourage your child to..

  • Be an eagle eye and look at the pictures, to help figure out the words.
  • Get your lips ready to make the first sound.
  • Finger point, hold the book and turn pages for themselves.

Sight words.

  • Did you know that sight words must be read in 3 seconds?
  • Children should be able to read these words when I change the order and transfer their word knowledge, that is read them in lots of different contexts, signs, books.

Sounds

  • Please continue to say and trace sounds using writing hand.
  • Encourage your child to move their wrist when doing so, rather than moving the whole arm.

Are you free any day between 8.45am and 9.15 am?

If so, why come along and support our reading program by listening to children read. Please let me know via email if you are available and which day suits you.
